Nicholai La Barrie is a theatre and film director.
Theatre credits include: Liar. Heretic. Thief. (Lyric Hammersmith), Grey (Oval House), Portrait For Posterity (Arcola), I’ll Take You There (The Gate), White (Edinburgh Festival), The Book of Disquiet (Blue Elephant Theatre), There is Nothing There (Oval House), Gob (London International Festival of Theatre), Chet Baker: Speedball (606 Jazz Club) and Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act (Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama).
Film credits include: Hamlet Sort Of (2017), North East South West, (Short Film 2016), Aingeal (2012) and Dark Stranger (2009 Official selection Caribbean Film Festival).
Dramaturge credits include: Feels (Lyric Hammersmith) and The Mob Reformers (Lyric Hammersmith).
For Autumn 2021 Nicholai has written and created the Lyric Hammersmith’s large scale community play – Heart Of Hammersmith, telling intergenerational stories of the people, places, sights and sounds of Hammersmith past and present. Celebrating West London across immigrant arrivals, the rise of gentrification and the shadows left by Grenfell and the rallying of a resilient community, it tells the story of Dieppe Street, a street from West London’s past and an area that today also unites its community.
Nicholai is a MOBO Fellow.
In July 2020 Arts Educational Schools announced the appointment of Nicholai to their Board of Trustees.
In June 2021 Nicholai was announced as Associate Director at Lyric Hammersmith.
