CAREER INFORMATION

Music Supervisor

Nick Skilbeck

I’m not from a musical family, but my grandmother had a piano and I played by ear. I have perfect pitch so could pick up melodies easily.  I studied at the Royal Academy of Music from the age of 12, studied for my degree there too (and became Student Union President) . It was at the Academy that I discovered the world of being a Musical Director. I teach at the Royal Academy of Music now, on the Musical Direction course, and have also written a book, The Singing and Acting Handbook.  I didn’t work as the Musical Director on the London production of Tina when it opened, but I was the MD on the Broadway production.

I try to do things that interest me – I am a composer as well as working on as a Music Supervisor, Orchestrator and/or Musical Director on projects such as Tina. I don’t want to be categorised so I do a lot of different things!
